A thoroughly addicting ending to a series that quickly became one of my favorites of all time. Valley takes place right after the ending of Chasm, leading Dawsyn and the family she created throughout the series to the ultimate climax. It has been a long time since a character has made such a strong imprint in my mind as Dawsyn did in my mind. Most main characters are immediately forgotten in favor of the next one, but Dawsyn is different enough from other typical fantasy lead characters that she is unforgettable. She is so much more than the perfect chosen one. Her decisions are made out of her own experience and that creates a reality in her character. Her motivations match who she is and what she has been through while mirroring who she wants to be.
This series is the found family trope at its finest. Not only is every character lovable, but they share a purpose within the group whether that skill is fighting or keeping up the morale, every character is treated with importance and respect. It was nearly impossible not to be completely invested in the future and well being of every character. It made for an emotional connection with the story that made me want to fly through the pages.
As someone who struggles with visualizing characters, but can picture a setting for days, this series was a dream come true, and the finale was no different. There was a strong connection between the setting, the elements, and the storyline that made the plot flow, even when there were quiet moments or moments of low action. The setting also added to the tension of the story in a unique way, showing how quickly time was running out, even outside the story itself.
5/5 stars for a story that completed a trilogy in a way that was vitally necessary in all the best ways.
A huge thank you to Netgalley and Angry Robot for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
