The Tales of the Celestial Kingdom is the perfect addition to one of my all time favorite Duologies. Taking place during Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior, Tales sometimes feels like extra chapters of these books rather than a novella in its own right, but this is definitely not a bad thing. Giving glimpses into moments throughout the series that were not given full scenes in the duology, this novella makes it easy to fall in love with my favorite characters all over again. The collection of short stories was a perfect way to give closure to each character that was not afforded in the novels and adds depth in all the right ways.
Not only were the stories themselves great additions, but the order in which they were told brought back all my great memories from the original books. It was nice to be able to remember the little details while reading, making the reading experience more complete. I really haven’t experienced such collections as this in the past, and I can definitely say I wish more authors would attempt a short story collection such as this!
This series is one of my favorite of all time and I will always love the world within the pages.
